JERRY BROWN is credited with getting the whole thing started. This founding member keeps The Shady Grove Band's show rolling with his rock solid guitar work, funny stage patter, and powerful vocals. Having grown up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, he is no stranger to traditional music or artistic achievements, as he was raised at the Penland School of Crafts, where his father was director for many years. Over the years, his love and interest in traditional southern music has brought in many of the great tunes that help create The Shady Grove Band's distinctive sound.
CHARLES PETTEE has an energetic and distinctive mandolin style whish is a wonderful part of The Shady Grove Band's show. In addition, Charles adds his strong lead and harmony vocals and dry wit to the stage. A member of the band from the beginning, his original songs and instrumentals have become an essential part of the group's distinctive sound, both on stage and in the recording studio. A recipient of many prestigious awards and grants for his song writing talents, Charles says "writing is just part of me, I can't help it."
ADAEL SHINN is a native of Kannapolis, North Carolina. Her love of singing began as a child in the old-time southern gospel tradition. Since then she has gone on to become a marvvelous writer and singer who never fails to charm audiences wherever she goes. Adael is also a powerful bass player and has played with such bluegrass greats as Earl Scruggs, John Graves, Kenny Baker, Curly Seckler, and Larry Perkins.

JOHN BOULDING's distinctive banjo and resophonic guitar playing make The Shady Grove Band complete.  He began to play banjo at the age of ten. is  musical tastes range from bluegrass, blues, swing, country, rock, to jazz, but his first love is bluegrass. His dry wit and stage presence are a wonderful addition to the band.  He has played with many professional acts including:  Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz (founding member), Johnny and Jeanette Williams, The Severts, Piedmont Grass, Arnie Solomon Band, Alleghany Moon, Glen Alexander, and currently, for the past fourteen years as a member of The Shady Grove Band.  John is also a luthier and his business is called "noteAble Repair". He also teaches lessons on banjo/dobro/guitar via online lessons.
